Organic Gin: The first olive oil flavoured gin in the world
OEL’s 3 Gin is the first of its kind in the world. A type defined by the use of vegetable fats to flavour spirits. But why does one even come up with the idea of combining fat and alcohol? And why in an organic gin of all things? The answer is: because fats are flavour carriers. This is an age-old insight that has been used in many ways in restaurants and bars since time immemorial and proves itself time and again. And it is precisely behind the bars of this world, i.e. in the parallel universe of the night owls, that this insight always pushes open closed doors. In the process of “fat-washing”, for example, fried ham slices are soaked in spirits such as whiskey – simply to make it smokier in the end. The fat enhances the actual flavours of the whiskey and brings its own (ham) flavours along with it.
This is exactly what happens with our organic gin, which is particularly suitable for such a fat-washing process due to the variety of its flavours. During the specially designed three-day flavouring process, both ingredients, i.e. gin and OEL, are stirred together in regular alternation between phases of movement and rest, taking into account the correct proportions. By hand and at constantly low temperatures. Only when the optimal taste has been achieved are the gin and OEL separated from each other again by filter systems and the finished organic gin is filled into the coloured stoneware jugs. The distilled botanicals of the organic gin, i.e. the herbal substances, were highlighted by the high vegetable fat concentration of the OEL and the development of their aromas was intensified.
The flavoured result captivates the palate with rich notes of ripened lemons, light aromas of ground rosemary and coriander and a natural and all-round sweetness of mastihas and juniper. The whole is flanked by the residual creaminess of the extracted OEL.
